Bate & Co is an independent Interior Design, Textile and Fine Art Studio based in Melbourne, Australia.

We’re honoured to see our interior design projects and the pieces we make in the homes of those who share our appreciation of Australian design and locally made product.

Our pieces are designed and handmade sustainably, one at a time, and then produced in limited quantities in Melbourne.

A strong emphasis is placed on quality through our choice of textiles, and artisanship using traditional techniques handed down through generations. Timeless designs that cultivate modern elegance and an independent spirit.

Meet the Founder

Melinda Bate established Bate & Co in 2017 and is a multidisciplinary designer across interiors, product design, illustration, and fine art. She is renowned for her unique sense of colour and imaginative original work.

Melinda wants you to fill your home with colours and objects that you love and make you happy. 

She challenges the way you think about mixing colours, textures, and patterns, and sets out to surprise and inspire you to create stunning environments that are unique to you and your lifestyle.

Sometimes she pushes boundaries, but it is always elegant.

 With a background in the Australian fashion industry, she has an eye for detail and a love for craftsmanship and traditional artisan techniques.

We are proud to let you know that every cushion is made and handmade in Melbourne.

All fabric is sourced locally or from Europe and every cushion has a plush feather insert.

Melinda herself finishes every cushion by hand to make sure each and every one is perfect.

We also supply custom-designed cushions to architects and interior designers and have access to a multitude of high-end textiles and trimmings from around the globe.
